Once all stumps are in place and back filled we can set up bearers. If you are using timber stumps they need to be cut off at the datum stump height. If they are concrete stumps they must already be set to the datum stump height as it is difficult to cut them down afterwards.
Bearers are placed on top of the stumps and joined making sure both bearer are supported by the stump. Generally the larger of bearer or if it is engineered (strongback/posi truss) the less stumps that are required. The general rule is 1200mm span to 1800mm spacing on traditional set ups for bearers.
Once all the bearers are in place we can mark out the joists.

Strongbacks are a type of engenieered floor truss. Depending on the set up they can be used for bearers or joists.

In this picture you can see a joist set up using strongbacks. Note the the spacing between the bearers supporting them due the engineering of the strongbacks (joist) to take a longer span.

Here is a more traditional bearer and joist set up.
When marking out joists you need to allow for flooring and walls that need supporting. You then fill in the remaining gaps at the required spacing.
